Nick Smith

Cardiff born NICK SMITH began his musical training as a scholarship junior student at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He gained an honours degree in music from Huddersfield Polytechnic and completed his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Nick Smith has worked extensively as a freelance horn player throughout the UK and abroad. He has appeared with most of the UK’s professional orchestras and has toured extensively in Europe, Asia and the USA.

Nick Smith was a founder member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra who are housed in Kuala Lumpur’s spectacular Twin Towers. More recently, he has forged links with orchestras in Denmark and is increasingly in demand as a chamber musician and soloist.

Nick Smith appears regularly as solo horn with Ensemble Cymru for whom he premiered Mervyn Burtch’s ‘Dream Sequence for Horn and Piano’ with Zöe Smith. They later recorded the work at Ty Cerdd recording studio in Wales Millenium Centre.
